These were found that online communication is anchored as the most preferred tool of communication, the effect of social media is more positive than negative, but it is more negative in older adolescents than youngers, girls are exposed to both positive and negative experience more than boys.
Adolescents’ social-emotional status play a key role on the effect of social media, thus adolescents with poor social-emotional wellbeing experience both negative and positive effect of social media more than the counterparts with good social-emotional wellbeing. Same pattern was also found among U.S. adolescents, however the positive effect of social media such as recovery of confidence and popularity, and decrease of depression and loneness is more prominent among poor social-emotional American adolescents than Korean counterparts. Korean adolescents shows significant level of pro-social online activities, however their pro-social participation is relatively lower than those of U.K. adolescents.
